CCTV
CCTV Overview
CCTV plays an important role in most business and domestic lives nowadays, with cameras everywhere they often come up against opposition by employees and members of the public, even though it is one of the most efficient ways of protecting property. A good CCTV system combined with an Intruder Alarm and key-holding can provide an effective service, with the minimum of disturbance to yourself the customer. CCTV also helps cut down on false alarms as the Police or Keyholders need only be called when an intrusion is detected and verified. CCTV can be monitored by several method,
Transmission Methods
PSTN - The basic setup, transmitting images over a standard telephone line to the Central Station
ISDN - Slightly faster offering a better frame-rate over PSTN due to the higher bandwidth.
TCP/IP (ADSL) - Very quick transmission rate offering near real time footage and improved Intruder verification.
You can also transmit images over your corporate or home network offering exceptional frame rates and the ability to monitor your premises yourself if you so wish to.
Recording
DIGITAL - Today's standard, offering varying picture quality from good to excellent (Camera Dependent), may also have the ability to search by time/date thus allowing you to quickly check footage. Digital footage is mainly recorded onto Hard Disks (The same as what you find in your average P.C) so it offers an massive storage capacity often being able to get a whole month onto one disk.
ANALOGUE - Still used widely involves recording to video tapes on a special 24hr VCR. Quality degrades over time as tapes get used and the recorder ages, searching for images is very time consuming as you have to keep on shuffling to the correct part over and over again.
